The first match of the Maharaja Trophy T20 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru was a one-sided affair as Bengaluru Blasters eased past Gulbarga Mystics by nine wickets with 52 balls to spare. After being put into bat, Devdutt Padikkal managed to get to 20 and Mystics got off to a superb start, scoring 40 in just two overs. But once Luvnith Sisodia was dismissed for 14, it opened the floodgates.
Their batters folded like a pack of cards and were well over 30-40 runs short in the end. The most expensive player in the auction, LR Chethan, scored a fine fifty to ensure that the Blasters did not have any hiccups as they raced away to their target of 117 without breaking a sweat. Chethan put on 101 for the first wicket with skipper Mayank Agarwal (47*) inside 10 overs to get his side off to the perfect start in the tournament.
Gulbarga will hope to put this behind them and get on the board when they take on the Hubli Tigers next in Bengaluru on August 17 (Saturday). Blasters, on the other hand, will look to make it two in two when they come up against Mysore Warriors on August 16 (Friday).
