It was Jamie Smith's day at Old Trafford on August 23 (Friday) as he raced to his maiden Test century, becoming the youngest English wicketkeeper to do so. As a result of his century and valuable contributions in the end from Chris Woakes (25), Gus Atkinson (20), Matthew Potts (17), and Mark Wood (22), England were able to take a 122-run lead on Day Three of the second Test at Old Trafford on August 23 (Friday).
Sri Lanka, who were bundled out for 236 in the first innings, got off to a disastrous start in the second innings, losing two wickets in the first 10 balls. Luckily for them, their experienced campaigner Angelo Mathews rescued his team with a brilliant 65. Kamindu Mendis, who walked in at No. 7, remains unbeaten on 56 and will hope that he can help Sri Lanka to a formidable total.
Sri Lanka have secured a slender 82-run lead, but they will know anything less than 220-250 would see England romping home to a comfortable victory. Can the tail wag for Sri Lanka again? They would certainly hope so as they look to give England a run for their money.
