Watch highlights England vs Australia 5th ODI, Bristol: Aussies clinch series 3-2

Steve Smith was once again on the right side of things as far as his captaincy is concerned, winning yet another game and this time around a series decider as Australia beat England by 49 runs (DLS) in the fifth ODI on September 29 (Sunday) at Bristol.  

This win helped the Aussies take the five-match series 3-2 as they had already led the tie 2-0 before the hosts had made a commendable comeback by winning the next two games.

After winning the toss and opting to field first, Australia could not manage to get a quick breakthrough as the English openers added 58 for the first wicket. However, the Aussies eventually came into the game on the back of great bowling by Travis Head (4/28). Despite centuries from Ben Duckett (107) and skipper Harry Brook’s 76, England could only manage 309 all-out on the board in 49.2 overs. 

Chasing the target, Australia reached 165/2 in 20.4 overs before the match was halted by rain. At the time of the stoppage, which eventually became the end of the game, the Aussies were 49 runs ahead on the Duck-Worth-Lewis and Stern method arriving at a result in a rain-affected game.
