Aaliyah Alleyne and Chamari Athapaththu helped Barbados Royals win the Women’s Caribbean Premier League 2024 by defeating Trinbago Knight Riders in the finale on August 29 (Thursday). The Royals emerged victorious by four wickets.
Alleyne picked up 4/21 as TKR could only manage 93/8 in their 20 overs. Jannillea Glasgow (24 off 31) and Shikha Pandey (28 off 31) were the only batters to cross the 20-run mark. Skipper Hayley Matthews also chipped in with a couple of wickets.
In reply, Matthews (13 off 12) and Chamari Athapaththu (47-ball 39*) put on 48 runs for the opening wicket in 6.1 overs. Wickets kept falling from one end but Athapaththu only left the field once the job was done. Laura Harris (6-ball 15) also chipped in a nice little cameo.
The Royals eventually got over the line with 30 deliveries to spare.
