Antigua & Barbuda Falcons won their first game of the Caribbean Premier League 2024, defeating the Trinbago Knight Riders by six runs in a close encounter.
Batting first, the Falcons had a good start from Fakhar Zaman and Justin Greaves, who had a splendid 65-run partnership for the first wicket in just 5.5 overs. However, the run rate subsided a bit after the powerplay as the Knight Riders kept coming back into the game with wickets at regular intervals.
Imad Wasim’s 46 (29) and Fabian Allen’s 25* (11) ensured that despite some setbacks, the Falcons managed to reach 176/6 in their 20 overs.
Chasing 177, Andries Gous batted nicely at the top of the order, scoring 39 from 33. However, Nicholas Pooran and Sunil Narine failedto get off the mark, and despite Kieron Pollard’s 30 off 15, the Knight Riders fell short by six runs at the end.
