Sri Lanka’s injury crisis deepens as leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of the remainder of the three-match ODI series against India with a hamstring injury.
Hasaranga’s injury is a body blow to the hosts, who are already without any of their first-choice seamers, with Matheesha Pathirana, Nuwan Thushara, Dushmantha Chameera and Dilshan Madushanka all nursing injuries.
Hasaranga is believed to have picked up the injury during the first ODI that ended in a tie. "He experienced pain in his left hamstring while delivering the last ball of his 10th over during the first ODI. An MRI performed on the player, following this, confirmed the injury," the SLC stated in a media release.
Hasaranga was a key reason for the hosts pulling off a miraculous comeback in the first ODI. He took three wickets, including the crucial one of KL Rahul, that turned the match on its head when India were cruising.
Maheesh Theekshana, who did not play the first ODI, could likely replace the leg-spinner in the XI for the second ODI.
The second ODI will be played on August 4 (Sunday) in Colombo.
