Virat Kohli will return to form against Afghanistan, believes Aakash Chopra

The India batter has managed scores of 1, 4 and 0 in his three innings at the T20 World Cup so far

Virat Kohli has managed scores of 1, 4 and 0 in the three innings at the T20 World Cup 2024. However, former batter Aakash Chopra believes Kohli will return to form in India's first Super Eights game against Afghanistan in St Lucia on June 19 (Wednesday).

"I believe Virat Kohli should return to form against Afghanistan, not because of the opponent, but because of the calibre of player he is and the form he exhibited coming into this World Cup," Chopra said, according to ANI.

"Considering the venue, there is hope the ball will come onto the bat well, and the side boundaries aren't very large. I think he has been overly aggressive."

Chopra believes that Kohli's overly positive approach has not worked for him. "In India's last match against Afghanistan in Bengaluru, he attempted a six on the first ball and got out. His dismissals during this World Cup suggest an overly positive approach that hasn't worked for him," Chopra told Jio Cinema.

"I hope he gives himself some time because Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq are in excellent form, plus they have a strong spin attack. If Kohli gives himself some time, his form won't be a concern."

Despite Kohli's poor showing India have won all their matches in the T20 World Cup, barring the game against Canada, which was washed out.

India will battle it out with Afghanistan in the first Super Eights match in Bridgetown, Barbados, on June 20 (Thursday).
