In the Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Nagaland, Mumbai’s Ayush Mhatre became the youngest batter in the history of List A cricket to score 150 runs in an innings. Opening the batting for Mumbai alongside Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Mhatre scored 181 off 117 balls at the age of 17y 168d, breaking the record of Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Mhatre, who made his first-class debut against the Rest of India earlier this year, took the world by storm with his astute batting display, racing to 441 first-class runs in just six matches.
But in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, which was also his first-ever List A appearance, Mhatre scored 78 against Karnataka to showcase his incredible penchant for runs and followed that up with 181 in only the fourth appearance in the 50-over format.
The record of being the youngest-ever to score 150 earlier belonged to Mumbai’s Yashasvi Jaiswal, who achieved it at the age of 17 years and 291 days against Jharkhand in 2019.
