USA have decided to let go of their head coach, Stuart Law, the cricket board announced on October 27 (Sunday). Law took over the role in April 2024. Under him, the USA won a T20 International (T20I) series against Bangladesh, and in the T20 World Cup that followed, they beat Pakistan to qualify for the Super 8s. In doing so, they also booked their place in the 2026 edition of the World Cup, which will be played in India and Sri Lanka.
The decision to let him go comes in the middle of country's ICC CWC League 2 fixture against Nepal in Dallas. "Given Stuart's contribution to the program, this was not an easy decision to make," Johnathan Atkeison, CEO of USA Cricket, said in a media release.
"Unfortunately, we felt that a change was necessary for the next phase of competitive preparation.
Venu Pisike, Chair of USA Cricket, added, "We thank Stuart for his contributions to USA Cricket during his tenure. We wish him nothing but success in his future endeavours."
There have been reports circulating that many in the USA team, including Monank Patel, were unhappy with the Law as he indulged in discrimination, mistrust, and favouritism. However, US Cricket did not confirmed those reports.
USA are currently second in the League 2 table, with six wins from nine games. A top-four finish in the table would give them an opportunity to qualify for the 2027 ODI World Cup, which is scheduled to be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
