Umpire Lyndon Hannibal should find another job: Wanindu Hasaranga

The Sri Lankan T20I captain wasn't too pleased with the umpire allowing a very high full toss as a legal delivery in the final over of the third T20I

Sri Lanka's T20I captain Wanindu Hasaranga wants Lyndon Hannibal to find “another job” after the umpire allowed a very high full toss as a legal delivery in the final over of the third T20I against Afghanistan in Dambulla.

Chasing a target of 210, Sri Lanka needed 11 off three deliveries when Wafadar Momand bowled almost a beamer to Kamindu Mendis. The Sri Lankan batter was outside the crease but the ball was clearly over the waist. However, there was no reaction from the leg umpire.

"That kind of thing shouldn't happen in an international match. If it had been close (to waist height), that's not a problem. But a ball that's going so high… it would have hit the batsman's head if it had gone a little higher,” ESPNcricinfo quoted Hasaranga as saying.

"If you can't see that, that umpire isn't suited to international cricket. It would be much better if he did another job."

Sri Lanka eventually fell short by just three runs but still won the series 2-1. During the incident, Kamindu even requested for the review but the current ICC playing conditions do not allow player reviews for umpire decisions that do not involve potential dismissals.

"There was a situation where you could review those calls before, but the ICC has got rid of that. Our batsmen tried to review that. If the third umpire is able to check the front-foot no-ball, he should check this kind of no-ball as well,” said Hasaranga.

“There's no reason why they can't. They didn't do even that, so I'm not sure what was going on in his (the square-leg umpire's) mind at the time."
