Sunrisers Hyderabad's Aiden Markram heaped praise on Rahul Tripathi following their seven-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders at the Brabourne Stadium on Friday.
Chasing 176 on a good batting surface, SRH lost Abhishek Sharma and captain Kane Williamson in quick time. But Tripathi (71 off 37 balls) and Markram (68 not out off 36) ensured they got over the line, recording SRH's third win on the trot in IPL 2022.
"It's nice to bat and when a guy like Tripathi gets going, makes it easy," Markram said in the post-match presentation.
"Nice to stay till the end and finish the game. I think it's buying into suit the role that the side needs. Happy that things have fallen in place," he added.
KKR captain Shreyas Iyer felt that his bowlers had an off day as he credited Tripathi for his whirwhind knock which included six sixes and four boundaries.
"I thought it was a good total. To be honest, Tripathi came in and changed the moment and didn't allow us to settle," Shreyas said.
The 28-year old felt his batters had done well to recover from 70/4 to post a good total.
"As batters, we were settled at the end of the powerplay and put a great effort as a batting unit. Was an off day as a bowling unit," he said.
SRH skipper Williamson was pleased with his bowling unit who were without key spinner Washington Sundar.
"It was a step up. With the ball to take early wickets against Kolkata, who keep coming at us, helped us. Our death bowling was superb," Williamson said.
The 30-year was happy for speedster Umran Malik who claimed 2-27 which included a delightful yorker to castle Shreyas Iyer.
"Umran is unique that he touches the 150 mark. He goes for four on many occasions which is not ideal but he is always looking to improve," he said.
