Hyderabad skipper Tilak Varma becomes the first Indian batter to smash three consecutive T20 hundreds. He achieved this feat during the first round of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024 against Meghalaya in Rajkot. Coming in at three, Tilak hit 151 off just 67 deliveries - thereby becoming the first Indian player to score 150 or more in a single T20 innings.
He smashed 14 fours and 10 sixes, making it 116 runs only through boundaries - the third most after Shreyas Iyer (118) and Puneet Bisht (126).
His 24 boundaries are also the most in SMAT history. He got to his fifty off 28 deliveries and brought up his ton off 51 balls.
His previous two innings in the format included an unbeaten 107 (56) against South Africa at Centurion, and he followed that up with 120* (47) in the next game against the same opposition in Johannesburg. In a span of just 10 days, Tilak has gone from just one T20 century to four.
Tilak, who plies his trade with the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) was one of five players to be retained by the franchise ahead of the mega auction.
