Welp, we've been AWOL for five months. We apologise for ghosting you for, erm, five months. Yeah, we admit that was really bad of us.
But the CDC Weekly is, here again, revamped. Let’s just call it the CDC Weekly 2.0.
One thing remains the same, however: we have you covered on all cricketing action worldwide.
Controversies
Shakib Al Hasan is going to jail?
Let’s start with controversies — why else are we here? Shakib Al Hasan, a former member of the parliament of the Awami League Party and one of Bangladesh’s biggest match-winners, is in soup.
The all-rounder, earlier this week, was named in a murder charge sheet as one of the 147 accused. According to reports, a case has been filed against Shakib for allegedly being involved in the murder of a garment worker, Mohammed Rubel, who was shot dead during protests in the country.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) were even sent a legal notice, demanding Shakib’s ouster from the national team.
No more Chandika-ball
Things that are usually said in a relationship. Nothing has changed here as well; BCB’s new president, Faruque Ahmed, wants incumbent head coach Chandika Hathurasinghe to be thrown out. Ironically, just after that statement, Bangladesh won in Pakistan by ten wickets, in what was a historic day in the country’s cricket history.
So, do they still want to find someone better?
Vyshak Vijaykumar abandons a match all by himself
On August 20 (Tuesday), the Maharaja T20 league hit new heights. Vyshak Vijaykumar might even get an Oscar nomination for his actions, with the way he went down in the rain-affected clash between Gulbarga Mystics and Mangaluru Dragons to ‘force’ a no result.
With Gulbarga on the verge of losing, Vyshak put on a show, which forced the officials to call the game off. His antics salvaged a point for his side.
WEEKLY RECAP
In the Spotlight
TRIPLE SUPER OVER MAYHEM!!!
Do you recall watching any cricketing tournament that had three super overs in one edition? Now imagine three in the same game. The 2024 Maharaja T20 trophy has been quite a rollercoaster, and the clash between Bengaluru Blasters and Hubli Tigers was the epitome of that.
Both Blasters and Tigers were inseparable not once, not twice, but THRICE!
After a tie in normal time and two ties in the super over, the Tigers finally got over the line thanks to Manvanth Kumar.
Women’s T20 World Cup no longer in Bangladesh
Of course, this was inevitable. After the unrest due to political tensions in Bangladesh, it was just a matter of time before the Women’s T20 World Cup moved away from the subcontinent nation.
Guess where it went? Of course, the United Arab Emirates, which has been generous to host a plethora of tournaments over the past four years. Only two venues, though — Sharjah and Dubai.
Dhawan calls it a day from all formats of cricket
The streets won’t forget the one and only Shikhar Dhawan, who announced his retirement on August 24 (Saturday). Dhawan last played for India in December 2022, and with no future in the Indian jersey, he quit all formats of the game.
These two articles are more than enough to talk about Dhawan’s contribution to the Indian team.
