The cricketing season in New Zealand will have the addition of Super Smash flavour in it, having hosted England for their home Tests. The Men’s Super Smash 2024-25 will begin on December 26, Boxing Day with the first clash between defending champions Auckland Aces and Northern Districts at the latter’s home ground in Seddon Park, Hamilton.
The Aces won the last edition (2023-24) on the basis of topping the league table as the final was abandoned due to rain.
Format of Super Smash Men's 2024-25
Like most of the T20 leagues in the world, the Super Smash also runs in two phases, the league stage and the playoffs, which include the finals. After double round-robin games on a home and away basis, the top three teams make it to the playoffs in the six-team tournament.
While the top team straightaway moves to the final, the second and third-placed teams face off against each other in the eliminator. The winner qualifies for the final. Each win has four points while a no-result and tie give each team two points.
While there is no super over in the league stage, the knockout stages will have one.
