On July 22 (Monday), former Odisha skipper Subhranshu Senapati confirmed his move to Madhya Pradesh ahead of the new domestic season.
Senapati, who has represented Odisha in nearly 140 games, has 2967 runs in the longest format, eight hundreds, and 12 50s, including 277 in last year’s Ranji Trophy against Madhya Pradesh. The 27-year-old spent nearly 162 overs at the crease during his marathon knock, helping his team to 498.
But Senapati’s influence was profound in the shorter formats, with 1082 runs in T20s, 1380 runs in List A format, and three hundreds across the white-ball formats. The batter was also part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings during their victorious run in the 2023 campaign when they beat Gujarat Titans.
It is learnt that Senapati’s move is inspired by the stalwart Chandrakant Pandit, who wanted the batter in his team. Senapati’s move will also be integral to MP’s plans across formats, given that they have consistently challenged top teams for the title.
"I have been with Odisha senior team for six-seven years. But to further my career, I took this decision when the call from Chandrakant Pandit. It's my personal decision,” Senapati said in a press conference in Cuttack.
Earlier this year, MP were in talks with signing former Andhra Pradesh skipper Hanuma Vihari, who, in the end, opted to stay at the state despite showing interest in moving.
