Australian paceman Mitchell Starc said he hasn’t heard from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) management after being released from the set-up ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction.
The Men in Purple acquired Starc for INR 24.75 crore at the 2024 auction, making him the costliest buy in IPL history. Starc struggled in the group stage of the tournament, picking up 12 wickets in as many games at an average of 33 and an economy rate of 11.4.
The left-arm pacer, however, proved his worth in the knockouts, taking five wickets in two games at an average of 9.6 and an economy of 6.9. He was Player of the Match in both those games as KKR won an IPL title after 10 years.
Ahead of the next auction, Kolkata have decided to retain Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Varun Chakravarthy, Harshit Rana and Ramandeep Singh, even letting go of their IPL-winning skipper Shreyas Iyer.
"I still haven't heard from them," Starc revealed to The Daily Telegraph.
"It is what it is, that's franchise cricket, so all barring the Hyderabad boys [Pat Cummins and Travis Head], will be in the auction."
As Starc pointed out, Cummins and Head are the only two Australians who a franchise has retained. Apart from Starc, David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, Tim David, and Jake Fraser-McGurk are the other big names from Australia who are set to enter the auction.
