Cricket Windies (CWI) have announced the squad for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against India, with Hayley Matthews being announced as captain and Shemaine Campbelle her deputy. However, an injured Stafanie Taylor, who is currently in rehabilitation, will miss the entire tour.
Windies have also called back legendary Deandra Dottin to the ODI squad. Earlier this year, Dottin reversed her international retirement decision and featured in the Women’s T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. Having last played an ODI back in March 2022, Dottin will also have fast bowler Shabika Gajnabi and wicket-keeper Rashada Williams for company as the duo make a comeback to the side after missing the T20 World Cup.
"We want to take the good momentum we gained at the T20 World Cup into this series. We showed that we can compete against the top teams which was pleasing," Head Coach Shane Deitz said.
"Since I've taken over, I've seen improvements in all areas, but we still have a long way to go. The consistency of high-level performance is what we need to keep working towards and this is a good opportunity to play six matches against one of the best teams in the world.
"We want to get more girls involved with franchise cricket moving forward and looking toward India, it's always good to play in front of the Indian IPL teams. It is good for our ladies to start getting their names in front of those people, to hopefully open some opportunities in the future," Deitz added.
Windies will play three ODIs and three T20Is against India - their first white-ball series in India in eight years. All three T20Is of the upcoming series will be played at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on December 15, 17, and 19, whereas Baroda will host the three ODIs on December 22, 24, and 27.
