Sophie Molineux earns herself a national contract after all-format showing

Meg Lanning remains the only player to be dropped off from the contract list for Australia

After a successful comeback across formats, Sophie Molineux has earned back her national contract. First, the left-arm spinner showed her worth in the clash against South African women before appearing in both the white-ball formats against Bangladesh.

Two years ago, Molineux was dropped from the contract list after her ACL injury, which forced her away from the sport and from the Australian setup. The left-arm spinner was also the Player of the Series in the recently concluded T20I series against Bangladesh, where she picked up six wickets, averaging under ten. Molineux also showed her worth at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) setup, where she was an integral part of the title-winning squad.

"We're really pleased to be able to offer Soph a contract after her successful return to the side this summer," national selector Shawn Flegler said. "She's shown a great deal of resilience to get back to full fitness and she'll play an important role next summer."

Meanwhile, the only change in the contract list has been the omission of Meg Lanning, who declared her international retirement last year. Molineux’s comeback hasn’t really spurred Jess Jonassen’s contract, who still remains on the list, given her experience is invaluable for the national team.

However, it isn’t an ultimate list, with players still having the opportunity to upgrade themselves by accruing 12 upgrade points, with five points for Tests, two for an ODI and two for a T20I fixture.
