After earning a return in the ODI side just a few days ago, Sophie Dunkley has made it to the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand. She had lost her place in the side during England’s tour of New Zealand earlier this year.
Her performance in the Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy for the South East Stars made a case for her return to the side. She is the tournament's leading run-scorer.
Meanwhile, Freya Kemp has been included in the side as a pure allrounder after being selected as a batter in the series against Pakistan. She will be bowling her left arm medium pace against New Zealand.
Apart from that, coach Jon Lewis informed us that Mahika Gaur, another left-arm pacer in the England ranks, is not available to play due to a side strain. However, Lewis said that he and his team “Will look to have her in and around the squad preparing to return to play.”
Lewis also recognised the importance of this T20I series as a buildup for the T20 World Cup later in October in Bangladesh.
“This five match series against a strong New Zealand side is really important for us and also vital preparation as we build towards the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh,” Lewis remarked.
