Sophie Devine extends WBBL contract at Perth Scorchers

The White Ferns star was named in the WBBL Team of the Tournament in 2023 after she scored 489 runs and took 14 wickets

Sophie Devine renewed her contract with the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) side Perth Scorchers ahead of the WBBL 10 season starting October 27 with Adelaide Strikers Women taking on Brisbane Heat Women at the Adelaide Oval.

With 489 runs and 14 wickets in WBBL 2023, Devine had repaid the faith of the Scorchers thinktank, who had picked her in the first-ever overseas players’ draft last year. The 34-year-old was also named in the WBBL Team of the Tournament last season.

"I'm stoked to be returning to the Scorchers," Devine confirmed her retention to cricket.com.au. "I have built such a special connection with the players and staff over the past four seasons, and I couldn't imagine playing anywhere else,” added the New Zealand women's star all-rounder.

Reminiscing about her days at the Western Australian side, Devine said, "Winning the WBBL 07 title in front of our fans at Optus Stadium will always be a special memory for me, and something the whole group is incredibly motivated to achieve."

Apart from Devine, Chamari Athapathhu signed a long contract with the Sydney Thunder Women on August 15 as well. Alana King has extended her contract with Brisbane Heat.
