Chitwan Rhinos fast bowler Sohail Tanvir picked up the first-ever five-wicket haul in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) 2024. He finished with figures of 5/21. He achieved this feat against Kathmandu Gurkhas in Match 2 of the NPL 2024 at the TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, on December 2 (Monday).
The Pakistan pacer struck off his very first delivery to get rid of Stephen Eskinazi for just 2. He then picked up a wicket apiece in his next two overs, that of Michael Levitt (25) and Bhim Sharki (1). As a result, the Gurkhas were tottering at 39/4 at the end of the powerplay.
The 39-year-old then returned at the death to pick up two more to further dent the opposition. Tanvir's efforts saw the Rhinos restrict Gurkhas to just 111/9. Rijan Dhakal, Kushal Malla, Amar Routela and Luc Benkensiein picked up a wicket apiece to support Tanvir well.
Tanvir came into the tournament as a replacement for the injured South African all-rounder Marchant de Lange.
Earlier, Rhinos captain Kushal Malla won the toss and decided his team would have a bowl in his side's first-ever match of the tournament.
