India batter Smiriti Mandhana signed up for Adelaide Strikers for the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) 2024-25 season a pre-draft signing. She will reunite with head coach Luke Williams, with whom she won the Women's Premier League (WPL) title for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) earlier this year. The Strikers are chasing their third WBBL title in a row.
Mandhana has previously played for the Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes, and most recently, she turned up for Sydney Thunder.
“I always look forward to playing in Australia, and I’m excited about the opportunity to contribute to a team with a history of success like the Strikers, Mandhana said upon joining the Strikers.
“I’m thrilled to continue working with Luke. Our previous experiences together have been so rewarding, and I’m looking forward to building on that.”
Speaking of the opportunity to work with Mandhana again, Williams said, “Smriti is an exceptional talent, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the Strikers. Her technical skill, experience and strategic insights are a tremendous asset for us.”
“I know first-hand the dedication and energy she brings to the team and on the field. Her expertise and leadership will be invaluable as we drive for success in the upcoming season.”
The WBBL draft will take place on September 1 (Sunday). The Strikers will get their WBBL campaign underway on October 27 against the Brisbane Heat at the Adelaide Oval.
