Suryansh Shedge continued his stellar form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SAMAT) 2024 with a 12-ball 36 against Vidarbha in the fourth quarter-final in Alur. It was the second high-octane score Shedge posted in the tournament, following his eight-ball 30 against Andhra Pradesh.
Punjab Kings, who signed him up in the IPL mega auction this year, would be highly impressed with the 21-year-old’s display in the competition and especially with his ability to clear boundaries with ease. If the right-hander tore apart on Satyanarayana Raju the other night, he took on the spinner Mandar Mahale in an over that cost Vidarbha 24 runs.
Shedge looked a million dollars during his stay at the crease, taking on the spinner with his long leavers, smashing three sixes and one four. Earlier in the day, Shedge, a pace bowler also picked up two wickets, showing his all-round prowess.
Chasing 222 to create history, Mumbai needed the best out of their openers - Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane - and they got the same. Shaw, who went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction, scored a 26-ball 49 while Rahane effortlessly smashed 84 off 45 deliveries, striking at 186.67.
Despite Shreyas Iyer’s rare failure, Mumbai’s middle-order - Shivam Dube and Shedge - mauled down the total, creating history with the highest run chase in SMAT knockout history. An aggregate of 445 runs were scored in the clash, which is the third-highest aggregate in a SMAT clash.
