Six out of seven BPL 2024-25 franchises fail to submit bank guarantee to BCB

Only Fortune Barishal submitted the bank guarantee before the start of BPL 2024-25

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) doesn’t seem to be getting away from controversies any time soon. Only five matches into the new season, and players are already uncertain about their payments. As many as six out of the seven franchises have failed to provide a bank guarantee to the organisers, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

As far as the payment schedule is concerned, fifty percent of the payments to the players are made before the start of the tournament and 25 percent during it. The rest is made after the tournament is over.

Several franchises have not made the initial 50 percent payment to the players, even as the season has already started. To make sure that the morale of the players is not broken and the franchises focus on the league, BCB President Faruque Ahmed reassured that all the players will be paid on time.

"We have communicated with the BPL franchise owners since day one. I told them that they will have to pay the money,” Ahmed was quoted as saying to ESPN Cricinfo.

“If you ask me to answer in black and white why (franchises didn't pay guarantee money), I won't be able to provide a clear answer. You have to see the overall situation from everyone's perspective over the last four months,” he added.

Only Fortune Barishal submitted the bank guarantee, and Ahmed said that the board is in conversation with the remaining teams to try to reach a solution as soon as possible.

“We have taken different steps for the franchises. I have spoken directly with the franchise as board president so that they feel that we are partners. They are also spending money for Bangladesh cricket,” he said.

Bank guarantee is the amount that the franchises pay the organisers so that in case the franchise is unable to play the players due to any reasons, the board would do so on their behalf at the end of the tournament.
