Shreyas Iyer slammed a magnificent double century against Odisha in the ongoing round of Ranji Trophy 2024-25 on November 7 (Thursday) in Mumbai. He scored 233 off 228 deliveries, which is his highest score in first-class cricket. Left-arm spinner Harshit Rathod eventually got the better of Iyer, who was out stumped.
The 29-year-old came into the match on the back of a superb 142 in the previous round against Maharashtra, where he helped his side to a comfortable nine-wicket victory.
Iyer has two other double hundreds at the first-class level. His first was for Mumbai when he hit exactly 200 in 2015 against Punjab in Mumbai. Two years later in 2017, he slammed an unbeaten 202 off just 210 deliveries at the Brabourne against an Australia A side featuring Jackson Bird, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh and Steve O'Keefe.
Iyer is not part of India's squad for the five-match Test series against Australia, beginning with the Perth Test on November 22. Moreover, he does not have a BCCI contract and was recently not retained by his Indian Premier League (IPL) side, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), despite leading them to their first title in a decade.
In the ongoing Ranji Trophy season, Iyer has scored 405 runs @ 101.25 in four innings, which consists of two centuries.
