Shivam Mavi ruled out of IPL 2024 with an injury

Lucknow secured the all-rounder's services for INR 6.4 crore, but has not played a competitive match since August 2023

Shivam Mavi has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 due to an injury. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) posted a video on social media, but the nature of the injury was not specified.

"I will miss [the tournament] a lot. I had come here after an injury and had thought I would play matches for my team and do well. But unfortunately, I will have to leave because I have suffered an injury," Mavi said in the video.

"A cricketer has to be mentally strong for this. If you have an injury, you need to see what you have to do to make a comeback and what things you need to take care of."

LSG secured the services of Mavi in the IPL 2024 auction for INR 6.4 crore, last played a competitive game in August 2023 in the Deodhar Trophy. After that, he suffered a rib injury, which kept him out of the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

"We got a very good team. I will keep cheering for the team, and hopefully, we will win," he added.

Confirming the news, LSG in a statement said, "He has been a key part of the squad for the season, hence we as well as Shivam are disappointed that his season has come to an end so soon.

"The franchise will continue to support Shivam and is committed to aiding him in his recovery process. We wish him a swift and complete return and are sure he will be back fitter and stronger."

While LSG are yet to announce a replacement, they have Β Matt Henry, Shamar Joseph, Mohsin Khan, Naveen-ul-Haq, Mayank Yadav, Yash Thakur, Arshad Khan and Yudhvir Singh from the fast bowling department to pick from.

With a win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Tuesday (April 2), LSG have climbed to fourth in the IPL 2024 points table. They take on Gujarat Titans (GT) next at home on April 7 (Sunday).
