Sehrawat to lead India A in Emerging Women's Asia Cup

Most of the players in the squad are from the team that won the U-19 Women's World Cup in South Africa

Shweta Sehrawat, the leading run-getter at the 2023 U-19 Women's World Cup in South Africa, will captain India A in the Emerging Women's Asia Cup in Hong Kong, starting from June 12 to 21.

The likes of Soumya Tiwari, G Trisha, Titas Sadhu, Parshavi Chopra and Mannat Kashyap, who were also part of India’s triumph in South Africa earlier this year, have also been picked up in the squad.

Sehrawat didn’t have a great Women’s Premier League but was brilliant in the U-19 World Cup, amassing 297 runs in seven innings at an average of 99. Meanwhile, legspinner Parshavi ended the tournament as the second-highest wicket-taker, claiming 11 wickets in six innings at an average of 7.

Former India all-rounder Nooshin Al Khadeer, who was the head coach of India’s Under-19 team, has now also been given the responsibility of this India A side.

Shreyanka Patil and Kanika Ahuja, who were impressive in the inaugural edition of the WPL, have also been picked. While Patil scored 62 runs at a strike rate of 151.1 and picked up six wickets, Ahuja got 98 runs at an SR 132.4 and took two wickets.

India will commence their Emerging Women's Asia Cup campaign against hosts Hong Kong on June 13. Apart from them,  Thailand A and Pakistan A are also in Group A. Meanwhile, Bangladesh A, Sri Lanka A, Malaysia and UAE are in Group B.

Squad: Shweta Sehrawat (capt), Soumya Tiwari (vc), Trisha Gongadi, Muskan Malik, Shreyanka Patil, Kanika Ahuja, Uma Chetry (wk), Mamatha Madiwala (wk), Titas Sadhu, Yashasri S, Kashvee Gautam, Parshavi Chopra, Mannat Kashyap, B Anusha.
