Still reeling from the injury-forced absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Mumbai Indians have announced the signing of Sandeep Warrier for the IPL 2023 season. Bumrah has been ruled out of the entire season with a back-related stress fracture and is doubtful even for the ICC Men's World Cup in October and November in India.
Sandeep Warrier has played one T20I for India thus far, but beyond that, he has a lot of experience of playing domestic games. Overall, the Kerala pacer, who later shifted his base to Tamil Nadu, has played 68 T20s and scalped 62 wickets in the process. He was previously a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore set-up, having played five IPL games in his career.
Pace has always been Warrier's strength. The pacer has a hat-trick against his name when he dismissed KV Sasikanth, Karn Sharma, and SK Ismail off consecutive balls in the final over in the 2019 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Warrier was a part of the Mumbai Indians preparatory camp and now has been signed for his base price of 30 Lakh.
