Nepal’s leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane was sentenced to eight years in jail after the Kathmandu District Court on the account of ***e. After multiple hearings, the Pathan High Court had acquitted the leg-spinner, with the 23-year-old cricketer available to represent the country in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the United States of America.
While Nepal have already announced their 15-man squad for the global event, the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s rule allows teams to make changes to their squads. Owing to his wealth of experience, Nepal will most likely include the leg-spinner in their set-up.
“A division bench of judges Surya Darshan Dev Bhatta and Anju Uprety Dhakal overturned the verdict of the Kathmandu District Court to hand down an eight-year jail term. According to Tirtharaj Bhattarai, spokesperson for the Patan High Court, the bench overturned the decision citing a lack of evidence,” the Kathmandu Post reported.
The 23-year-old has represented his country in 52 T20Is and has a record 98 wickets, and his experience might well be handy in Nepal’s run at the upcoming event.
