Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have announced that the trio of Salman Butt, Kamran Akmal & Rao Iftikhar Anjum have been officially appointed as consultant members to chief selector Wahab Riaz.
Wahab, 38, still an active professional cricketer, was appointed as the chief selector earlier this month in the aftermath of Inzamam-ul-Haq stepping down from the position amidst conflict of interest allegations. The former international speedster commenced his tenure by picking the Test squad for the tour of Australia but came under fire for publicly criticizing Haris Rauf for opting out of the three-match series Down Under.
The 38-year-old, going forward, will be assisted by the aforementioned trio, who have assumed their responsibilities in the selection panel with immediate effect. Their first assignment as consultant members to the chief selector will be the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand, that commences on January 12th.
The development marks a return to the top brass of Pakistan Cricket for former captain Butt, who was suspended for five years for his role in spot-fixing during the Pakistan and England Test series in August, 2010.
The 39-year-old returned to professional cricket, after his ban, in 2016 and played in domestic competitions in Pakistan till 2020. He represented the Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and played in the 2020 edition of the competition.
