Ravindra Jadeja released from Duleep Trophy squad

In other news, Navdeep Saini, and Gaurav Yadav will replace Mohammad Siraj and Umran Malik, respectively

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on August 27 (Tuesday), announced that all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been released from the tournament. Jadeja was the most senior player named in any of the squads for the red-ball tournament that marked the start of the Indian domestic season.

The BCCI further confirmed replacements for Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik in Team B for the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024-25. While Siraj has been replaced by Delhi’s Navdeep Saini, Pondicherry’s Gaurav Yadav, second-highest wicket-taker (41 wickets in 7 games) in Ranji Trophy 2023-24, has been drafted in place of Jammu and Kashmir pacer Umran Malik.

“Both Siraj and Malik are suffering from an illness and are not expected to be fit in time for their Duleep Trophy fixtures,” BCCI said in a press release.

Starting September 5, 2024, in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, and M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, the Duleep Trophy will feature all major Indian cricket team players except Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin and now Jadeja. Nitish Kumar Reddy’s participation in the competition remains subject to fitness test clearance.
