Sai Sudharsan smashes his maiden double century in first-class cricket

Sudharsan is the fourth Tamil Nadu batter to smash a double-ton in the Ranji Trophy since 2015

It’s a special day in the career of 23-year-old Sai Sudharsan as the left-hander has smashed his maiden double-century in first-class cricket, getting to the landmark on the third session of Day 1 in Tamil Nadu’s clash against Delhi at the Arun Jaitley stadium on October 18 (Friday).

Sudharsan entered Friday’s clash with five first-class hundreds under his belt but only one score over 150. In the first game of this ongoing Ranji season against Saurashtra in Coimbatore, Sudharsan missed out on a ton, getting dismissed for 82.

But after being sent into bat by Delhi, the youngster made amends, hammering an unbeaten double ton at a strike rate of 77.99. It was a stunning onslaught from the 23-year-old, who smashed 23 fours and one six in his dashing knock.

Sudharsan first shared a 168-run opening stand with Narayan Jagadeesan and then added an unbroken 211-run stand with Washington Sundar, who batted at No.3 and finished day one on 96*.

Sudharsan is the fourth Tamil Nadu batter to smash a double-ton in the Ranji Trophy since 2015. While Abhinav Mukund and Kaushik Gandhi have smashed one double ton a piece, Jagadeesan has smashed a double ton and a triple ton. Both came last season at the SNR College Ground in Coimbatore.
