Russell launches expletive-filled rant; says CPL ‘robbed’ TKR

Due to the circumstances surrounding TKR’s exit, a furious Russell took to Instagram to absolutely tear into the CPL organizers

Controversy erupted in the 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) on October 2 (Wednesday) as Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) got dumped out of the competition in astonishing fashion after a floodlight failure resulted in them losing the clash against Barbados Royals by nine wickets.

At 168/3 in 19.1 overs, with Nicholas Pooran unbeaten on 91, TKR looked like they had control of the Eliminator but an abrupt floodlight failure brought the match to a halt for over an hour.

The extended power failure meant that the match had to be curtailed. The contest got shortened to a 5-over match and Barbados were given a target of 60, and the Royals got home easily thanks to a sizzling fifty from David Miller (50* off 17), who blasted the TKR bowlers out of the park after walking in at No.3.

Due to the circumstances surrounding TKR’s exit, a furious Andre Russell took to Instagram to absolutely tear into the CPL organizers.

“Am not the person to come on the internet and voice my opinion but this year CPL I feel robbed this light situation was f****y,” Russell posted on his Instagram story.

“Lights came on just before the cut off time is also f****y and then 60 off 30 balls is also a bigger f****y and yes Andre Russell said it right is right f****y a f****y but I guess it's just pure f****y.”

TKR had won three of their four matches heading into the Eliminator and had just missed out on a top-two finish due to Net Run Rate.

Barbados Royals, meanwhile, will take on Guyana Amazon Warriors in Qualifier 2 for the right to face Saint Lucia Kings in the final in Guyana on October 6 (Sunday).
