India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has announced his retirement from T20 Internationals (T20I). This comes a day after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, too, bowed out of the format following their triumphant T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, which saw India edge South Africa out by seven runs in the final in Barbados.
"With a heart full of gratitude, I bid farewell to T20 internationals," the all-rounder wrote on social media.
"Like a steadfast horse galloping with pride, I've always given my best for my country and will continue to do so in other formats. Winning the T20 World Cup was a dream come true, a pinnacle of my T20 International career. Thank you for the memories, the cheers, and the unwavering support."
Jadeja made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2009 and has since played a total of 74 matches in the format for India. He scored 515 runs at a strike rate of 127.16, and with the ball, he picked up 54 wickets at an economy rate of 7.13.
The 35-year-old had very little impact at the T20 World Cup, especially with the ball, picking up just one wicket in his 14 overs. His best moment with the bat came when he hit an unbeaten 17 off just nine deliveries against England in the semi-final, which took India past 170. Overall, he hit 35 runs at a strike rate of close to 160.
This is Jadeja's second ICC title with the Indian team. He previously won the Champions Trophy with them in 2013. Along with Kohli, he also lifted the Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia.
