Rashid Khan receives demerit point for violating ICC Code of Conduct

The Afghanistan all-rounder received a demerit point for throwing his bat in the win over Bangladesh

Afghanistan skipper and ace all-rounder Rashid Khan has been handed one demerit point for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct in their win over Bangladesh.

The all-rounder was seen throwing his bat towards teammate Karim Janat’s direction in the 20th over of the first innings, with it being his first offence in the 24-month period. According to Article 2.9, Rashid was caught 'throwing a ball or any other cricket equipment at or near a player in an inappropriate or dangerous manner during an international match'.

On-field umpires Nitin Menon and Langton Rusere, third umpire Adrian Holdstock, and fourth umpire Ahsan Raza levelled the charge. Rashid accepted to having committed the offence, and the subsequent sanction was proposed without a hearing.

Afghanistan will play South Africa on June 27 (Thursday) in the first of the two semi-finals at Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba.
