Rashid Khan re-signs with Sussex for 2022 Blast season
NEWSRashid joins Rizwan and Travis Head as Sussex’s overseas signings for next season
Rashid Khan, the fifth-ranked T20I bowler in the world, has re-signed with Sussex and will return to the club for the 2022 Vitality Blast season in what will be his fourth stint with the side.
Rashid made his Blast debut for Sussex in 2018, but also featured for the club in the 2019 and 2021 Blast seasons. In the 2021 Blast season Rashid featured in only three matches, taking two wickets at an ER of 7.66, and also made match-winning contributions with the bat, scoring 57 runs in total at a remarkable strike rate of 247.82. Against Yorkshire, a stunning 9-ball 27* from the bat of Rashid helped Sussex seal a win and progress to finals day.
Rashid is the third major overseas signing for Sussex for the 2022 season, with Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan and Australia’s Travis Head being the other two.
“I have always enjoyed my time at Sussex and am more determined than ever to try and help bring the T20 Blast title back to Hove,” Rashid said in an official statement released by the club.
“The squad will look a little different this season with some key players having moved on but the youngsters coming though impressed me greatly in recent seasons and combined with some new faces I think it is a really exciting time to be a Sharks fan.”
The 23-year-old, however, will not be available for the entirety of the season, and is expected to miss a chunk of games in the first half due to IPL commitments.
