Rahul Dravid in line to become Rajasthan Royals head coach: Report

Dravid, whose three-year stint with the Indian Men’s side came to an end last month, represented RR as a player in 52 games between 2011 and 2013

World Cup-winning team India coach Rahul Dravid could make a sensational return to Rajasthan Royals (RR) as reports suggest that the 51-year-old is in talks to take over as the head coach of the franchise for the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Times of India reports that Dravid, who has both captained and mentored RR in the past, has had talks with the franchise and could be announced as the new head coach imminently.

"Talks are going on between RR and Dravid, and an announcement in this regard is round the corner," TOI quoted a source as saying.

Dravid, whose three-year stint with the Indian Men’s side came to an end last month, represented RR as a player in 52 games between 2011 and 2013. He led the franchise in 40 of these games, and took them to the final of Champions League Twenty20 in 2013, where they lost to Mumbai Indians (MI).

He then served as a mentor for the franchise for two seasons (2014 & 2015) before moving on to Delhi Capitals, where he served as the mentor for two seasons (2016 & 2017).

In 2017, he was appointed the head coach of India A and India under-19 teams. This led to him eventually becoming head coach of the national side in 2021.

As it stands, RR do not have a designated head coach. Kumar Sangakkara, Director of Cricket of the franchise, served as the defacto head coach of the franchise in IPL 2024.
