Punjab Kings unlikely to continue with Trevor Bayliss as head coach

According to the report, the franchise was very happy with the Aussie’s working style, but his failure to deliver results is seen as a hindrance to the role

After failing to secure desired results with Punjab Kings, Trevor Bayliss, whose two-year contract ended this year, may not get an extension. Cricbuzz reported that Punjab Kings are looking for an Indian coach after the success of Ashish Nehra and Gautam Gambhir.

Sanjay Bangar, who was previously the franchise's head coach and is currently the director of cricket development, is one of the top contenders for the role, but nothing has been finalized as yet.

Bayliss, who took over from Anil Kumble in 2022, has been a recurring name in the Indian Premier League, having worked with three franchises - Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Punjab Kings - apart from coaching England in one of the most defining periods of English cricket.

According to the report, the franchise was very happy with the Aussie’s working style, but his failure to deliver results is seen as a hindrance to the role.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that Mark Boucher’s time in Mumbai Indians is limited following the side’s disappointing performance in the 2023 season. Kolkata Knight Riders are also looking for a new coach after Gautam Gambhir left the franchise to join the Indian team, alongside Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate.
