Prithvi Shaw will likely be out for at least three months due to a knee injury he suffered last month during his stint with Northamptonshire, ESPNcricinfo reported on Thursday (September 14).
As a result, the right-handed opener will miss quite a lot of India's 2023-24 domestic season, with the Irani Cup getting underway from October 1.
Shaw was having the time of his life in the One-Day Cup competition in England for Northamptonshire, but his stint was cut short due to a knee injury. He got injured while fielding against Durham; subsequent scan results revealed the injury was worse than initially expected.
Shaw consulted a surgeon in London before returning to the NCA in Bangalore for another assessment. According to the report, the 23-year-old will only get a surgery if there’s no option left. It will be a while before we see him back on the field.
He left the competition as the leading run-scorer, slamming 429 runs across four innings. The right-hander smashed 244 off 153 balls against Somerset, the second-highest List A score in England. In the remaining three innings, Shaw managed scores of 34, 26 and 125*.
Shaw, who has featured in all three formats for India, hasn’t played any international cricket since August 2021. He even had a terrible IPL 2023, managing just 106 runs in eight innings.
