Jonathan Trott has been named as the new head coach of Pretoria Capitals in the SA20. The 43-year-old replaces Graham Ford who recently left the position.
Trott is currently serving as Afghanistan’s head coach. The former England batter took up the role in 2022 and got his deal renewed at the start of this year. His contract is set to expire in December and there’s no update on whether he will renew it again or not.
Considering the next SA20 will happen in January 2025, there will be no clash between his new role and his international commitments.
Trott has achieved quite a lot of success with Afghanistan in the last 12 months. Afghanistan defeated the likes of England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Netherlands in the 2023 ODI World Cup but failed to make it through to the semis.
However, they did make it through to the semis of the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies. They won three of their four games in the group stage before defeating Australia and Bangladesh in the Super 8s to qualify for the semis, where they lost to South Africa.
Pretoria Capitals didn’t have a great SA20 2024. They only won three of their 10 encounters and finished second last on the points table.
