Perth to host opening Ashes Test for the first time in 43 years

The last time an Ashes series Down Under started in a city other than Brisbane was in 1982-83

Cricket Australia, on October 16 (Wednesday), announced the schedule for the 2025-26 Ashes series in Australia. The Australian board has made some changes to the traditional rota, with Perth hosting the opening Ashes Test (November 21-25, 2025) for the first time in 43 years.

Meanwhile, the Gabba will host the second Test, which will be a day-night encounter, from December 4. The next three games will be played in Adelaide (December 17-21), Melbourne (December 26-30) and Sydney (January 4-8).

The last time an Ashes series Down Under started in a city other than Brisbane was in 1982-83. The Gabba will be hosting its third day-night men's Test after previous games against Pakistan (2016) and Sri Lanka (2019). With Brisbane hosting the day-night Test, Adelaide will host its first day Ashes encounter since 2013.

"The 2025-26 Ashes dates align with our recently released seven-year international schedule, and we are grateful for the support state and territory governments are providing to enhance and grow our major events," CA's executive general manager of events and operations, Joel Morrison, said in Perth.

"The history and excitement of the Ashes make it one of the world's most iconic sporting events, and we are delighted this fierce and electrifying rivalry will extend over two summers in 2025 – commencing with CommBank women's Ashes this summer, which includes the historic MCG day-night Test and culminates in the men's Ashes next summer.”

England haven’t won a Test in Australia since 2011. Since their victory at the SCG in 2011, they have lost 13 and drawn two Tests in Australia. Meanwhile, the urn has also been with Australia since 2017-18.

Schedule -

First Test: Perth Stadium - November 21-25, 2025

Second Test: The Gabba (D/N) - December 4-8, 2025

Third Test: Adelaide Oval - December 17-21, 2025
