Former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel will serve as batting mentor for Gujarat Titans in the next edition of the Indian Premier League, the Times of India reported on October 22 (Tuesday).
The 39-year-old will work alongside head coach Ashish Nehra and Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki. He will replace Gary Kirsten, who is now Pakistan’s white-ball coach.
Before this, Parthiv was working with Mumbai Indians as one of their talent scouts, regularly attending domestic matches at all levels to unearth new talents.
Parthiv, who played 25 Tests, 38 ODIs and two T20Is, retired from the game in December 2020. Since then, the former left-handed batter has also been working as an analyst and commentator.
The Titans won a title in their inaugural season and finished runners-up in 2023. Then Hardik Pandya, who led them in the first two years, switched his base to Mumbai and Shubman Gill was appointed captain.
Under Gill’s leadership, GT could only win five of their 14 games and finished eighth on the IPL 2024 points table.
