Paras Dogra, on October 26 (Saturday), became the second-highest run-scorer in the history of Ranji Trophy cricket. The 39-year-old, who shifted his base to Jammu and Kashmir before the start of this season, went past Devendra Bundela and Amol Muzumdar’s tallies of 9,202 and 9,203 runs, respectively, in the third round of the tournament against Services.
After bowling Services out for 71 in the first innings, Jammu and Kashmir started the second innings on a solid note, with Shubham Khajuria, Ahmad Omar Banday and Shubham Singh getting good starts. In-form Abdul Samad got out for a golden duck but by then J&K (120/4) were well past Services’ first-innings total.
Batting at No. 5, Dogra scored 28 off 67 deliveries and in the process, the right-hander went past Bundela and Muzumdar. Dogra (9,215 runs) is now only behind Wasim Jaffer, who has 12,038 runs in the Ranji Trophy.
Dogra, who made his first-class debut for Himachal Pradesh during the 2002/02 season, has the most number of centuries (30) among current batters in the Ranji Trophy. The veteran also has the joint-most number of double centuries (9) in the competition.
