Pakistan slump to bottom of WTC standings after loss against England

The Shan Masood-led side have lost six Tests in a row, including three at home

Pakistan just cannot catch a break, can they? They succumbed to an embarrassing innings and 47-run loss at the hands of England in the first Test in Multan on October 11 (Friday). As a result, they became the first team to lose a Test by an innings after scoring over 500 runs. Pakistan put up 556 in their first innings, only for England to post 823/7, thereby taking a 267-run lead.

England did not require to bat again as the Shan Masood-led side were bundled out for just 220. With the loss in Multan, Pakistan are now bottom of the World Test Championship (WTC) standings with 16.67 percentage of points won (PCT). This comes as no surprise, as they have lost six Tests in a row, including three at home.

Since Masood took over as captain, Pakistan have lost three Tests against Australia Down Under, two against Bangladesh at home, and now one more in Multan against England.

In the ongoing WTC cycle, Pakistan still have as many as six Tests left. They take on England in a couple of Tests more - in Multan (October 15) and Rawalpindi (October 24). They will then tour South Africa for a couple of Tests at the end of this year before welcoming the West Indies into their shores for another two Tests in January 2025. A win in all these matches, too, may not be good enough for them to finish in the top two.

India currently lead WTC standings with 74.24 PCT, ahead of Australia (62.50 PCT) and Sri Lanka (55.56 PCT). With this win over Pakistan, England have bettered their PCT, which currently stands at 45.59.
