Following India’s humiliating 3-0 whitewash at the hands of New Zealand at home, fast bowling legend Wasim Akram has remarked that Pakistan will have an advantage if they play Test cricket against the Men in Blue on turning tracks.
Rohit Sharma and Co. struggled big time against the likes of Mitchell Santner, Ajaz Patel and Glenn Phillips during the three-match series against New Zealand. Rishabh Pant (66) and Washington Sundar (44.5) were the only two Indian batters to average more than 30 against spin.
The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal (25.6), Shubman Gill (29.5) and Sarfaraz Khan (23.5) did get some runs but failed to dominate spin on a longer basis. And when it comes to playing spin, we all know how terrible Virat Kohli (16.75) and skipper Rohit Sharma (10.5) have been of late.
Meanwhile, Pakistan recently defeated England 2-1 on their home soil. The Men in Green lost the first Test by an innings and 47 runs but prepared turning tracks for the last two encounters, where the English batter surrendered against off-spinner Sajid Khan and left-arm spinner Noman Ali.
Akram, who was talking to former England captain Michael Vaughan during their commentary stint in the first ODI between Australia and Pakistan in Melbourne on November 4 (Monday), said that Pakistan could defeat India.
“I would want to see a Test series between India and Pakistan,” said Vaughan, to which Akram replied, “It will be massive. It will be good for the game, for two cricket-crazy nations.”
When Vaughan said that “Pakistan can now beat India on the turners”, Akram added, “Pakistan have a chance to beat India in Tests now on a spinning track. They have been hammered by New Zealand 3-0 at home.”
India and Pakistan last played a Test against each other in December 2007. India won the three-match series 1-0, with the last two games ending in a draw.
