Pakistan crash out of T20 World Cup; USA qualify for Super Eights

USA confirm a Super Eight spot in their first-ever T20 World Cup to ensure a direct qualification for 2026 T20 World Cup in India

The nightmare for Pakistan has finally happened. Consistent rains over the last week in Florida made preparing the ground in time at Lauderhill, Florida, impossible to ensure the match between the United States of America and Ireland on June 14 (Friday). The match was abandoned eventually.

Wet spots on the side of the pitch caused concerns while starting the game. That issue wasn’t solved even three hours after the game's scheduled start, and the rain once again arrived with thunder.

Pakistan’s losses against the USA and then India in consecutive games ensured that the hosts were ahead of them on the points table, as they had already defeated Canada before meeting the Men In Green. They won their game against Canada, and a win against Ireland would have given them a chance of qualification if the USA had lost against Ireland.

However, that wasn’t to be, as the game was called off. The USA now has five points in four games, which Pakistan can’t reach now even if they beat Ireland.

It has been a remarkable achievement for the USA to qualify in the Super Eight of their first-ever T20 World Cup appearance. They have been on a good streak, winning against Bangladesh in a bilateral series before the World Cup and then beating Pakistan with authority.

USA will meet South Africa on June 19 in the first match of Super Eights at North Sound, Antigua. Then they’ll play the Windies on June 22, and the leader of Group B on June 23.
