Pakistan were part of an unwanted history as they became the first team to lose by an innings after putting up over 500 runs on the board. They lost by an innings and 47 runs in the first Test against England in Multan. Pakistan scored 556 in the first innings, thanks to centuries from Shan Masood, Abdullah Shafique and Salman Agha. But England scored a record 823/7 in their first innings, securing a lead of 267. Harry Brook scored a triple ton, while Joe Root scored a double century on his way to his 35th Test century.
England have now won four Tests in a row in Pakistan, following their 3-0 victory on their previous tour in 2022. Pakistan under Masood have now lost six Tests in a row, three of them at home. They went into the series on the back of a 2-0 whitewash against Bangladesh at home, and before that, Australia whitewashed them 3-0 Down Under.
In the second innings, England had Pakistan on the mat, reducing them to 82/6. However, a 109-run stand between Salman (63) and Aamer Jamal (55*) gave Pakistan hope of salvaging some pride, but it wasn't to be.
The two teams clash in the second Test in Multan from October 15 onwards before moving to Rawalpindi for the third and final game from October 24.
