Pakistan, Bangladesh docked WTC points for slow over rate

The two teams were docked points for maintaining a slow over rate in the Rawalpindi Test

On August 26 (Monday), both Pakistan and Bangladesh were docked World Test Championship (WTC) points for maintaining a slow over rate in the Rawalpindi Test.

While Pakistan were docked six WTC points for maintaining a six-over deficit, the tourists Bangladesh were docked three WTC points for the same. Pakistan’s team were fined 30% of their match fee, while Bangladesh were penalised 15% of theirs.

Both captains—Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shan Masood—accepted guilt for the offences. In addition, Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was fined 10% of his match fee and given a demerit point.

The all-rounder was penalised in accordance with Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players, which relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.”
