If reports are to be believed, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are set to appoint Omkar Salvi as their fast-bowling coach ahead of the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Salvi, though not a high-profile figure, is a known name in India’s domestic cricket, having most recently served as Mumbai’s head coach in their victorious 2023/24 Ranji Trophy and 2024/25 Irani Trophy campaigns.
Salvi has also been Kolkata Knight Rider’s (KKR) assistant coach in the past, where he may have worked alongside Dinesh Karthik, now RCB’s batting coach and mentor.
Salvi’s current contract with the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) expires in March 2025, freeing him up for IPL duties.
“He has been appointed as bowling coach for RCB for the forthcoming season, he has expertise and has worked with other franchises too,” a source confirmed to the Indian Express. RCB are expected to confirm this development soon.
Salvi is the brother of the former Indian seamer Aavishkar Salvi, who played four ODIs for India in 2003. He himself played only one List A fixture, representing Railways against Madhya Pradesh in 2005.
With a new auction cycle in place, RCB are refurbishing their backroom staff with the appointments of Karthik and now Salvi before the mega -auction on November 25 and 25.
