Netherlands have announced a strong 15-member squad for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers set to take place from June 18 to July 9 in Zimbabwe.
Scott Edwards will lead the side that includes a few young players in the mix as Colin Ackermann and Roelof van der Merwe miss out on their place due to County commitments.
While most of the teams in the county championship allow the players to represent their national side, the financial security that it offers most likely results in the players opting to stay back in England.
"The Netherlands team selected for the World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe is a well-balanced team, coming off the back of a very successful T20 WC in Australia and two competitive Super League series against Zimbabwe and South Africa," said High-Performance Manager Roland Lefebvre in a press release.
"The unavailability of several of our more experienced County players has allowed a number of young players to be included in the squad, and we look forward to seeing them perform at the highest level," he added.
The Dutch will be fairly accustomed to the conditions on offer as they played a riveting three-match series against Zimbabwe in March, which they lost 2-1.
Despite the defeat, the skipper is optimistic about the team's chances in the Qualifier and hopes the brand of cricket they are known to play will yield them massive dividends.
"Coming off the back of a three-game series in Zimbabwe a few months ago, we have been really intentional in our preparation for the qualifiers, and we are confident the squad we have picked can play a brand of cricket that will be successful in these conditions," captain Scott Edwards said.
"We have a good mixture of experienced players along with some exciting young players who have performed well in the domestic Pro Series and club season leading into this tournament," he further added.
Netherlands are placed in Group A and will face hosts Zimbabwe and the United States of America on June 20 and June 22 before their final two league fixtures against Nepal and West Indies on June 24 and 26, respectively.
